Construction of the skyboxes, press box and Sports Backers' offices was completed in the Spring of 2001, putting the finishing touches on VCU's newest athletic complex.  Sports Backers Stadium, featuring the Irwin Belk Athletic Center and Richard A. Hollander Track, officially opened on Wednesday, August 25, 1999.

In addition to serving as the home facility for VCU's men's and women's soccer team and track and field teams, Sports Backers Stadium has played host to the USA Track & Field Junior National Championships, the Colonial Athletic Association Conference track and field Championships, the Virginia High School League Track and Field Championships and numerous other track and soccer events.

Sports Backers Stadium's international caliber track provides an ideal setting for regional, national and even international track and field meets. The eight 48 inch wide lanes with the Martin surface and the full compliment of throwing facilities within the main stadium make this an ideal event facility. In addition, the 3,250 quality seats, bathrooms, locker rooms and a storage facility provide the amenities to support the athletes and fans alike.  The press box and skybox space provide the added amenities to host top national and international events.
