Box Score
RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Emily Guerra (Yorktown, Va./Seton Hall) used a pass form senior Ashley Cadwallader (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) to score the match's only goal and give Virginia Commonwealth Univeristy (3-11, 1-4) a 1-0 overtime victory over Radford University (4-10, 1-1) Friday night at Cary Street Field.
Barely into the overtime period sophomore Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England/Bromley) moved the ball into the scoring circle and fired a shot toward the cage. Cadwallader collected the rebound off the pads of a diving Radford goalie and sent it to a wide open Guerra who slammed a shot into the back of the net.
Guerra’s goal came just 1:07 into the extra session to give the Rams their second-straight overtime win and their second consecutive 1-0 victory over the Highlanders. The junior midfielder also scored a goal in VCU’s 4-3 overtime win over Drexel last Sunday.
Opportunities were hard to come by during regulation with VCU managing just three shots on goal and Radford posting only four.
Junior goalkeeper Brittany LoVullo (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) deflected all four Highlander attempts and notched her first shutout of the season.
The Rams return to action Thursday October 19 when they travel to Ann Arbor for a match with Michigan at 3 p.m.
