BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore forward Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England/Bromley) scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season, but Virginia Commonwealth University (4-14, 2-5) fell 2-1 on strokes to Northeastern University (9-10, 4-3) Friday afternoon at Sweeney Field.

Down 1-0 in the second period, Lloyd made VCU’s only shot of the half count. The sophomore forward used a pass from senior Ashley Cadwallader (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) to pull the Rams even at 1-1.

Junior goalkeeper BrittanyLoVullo (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) charted seven saves during regulation, but saved her best work for the extra frames. LoVullo stopped a would-be breakaway goal by Northeastern junior Ashley Webber in the eighth minute of the first overtime. The junior keeper stuffed another of Webber’s breakaway attempts in the second overtime as well two attempts by Husky senior Whitney Shean right in front of the cage. In all, LoVullo held Northeastern scoreless for 88:12 while posting 12 saves.

Neither team could manage an overtime goal meaning the match would be decided by strokes. Lloyd and freshman Emilie Osinga (Aerdenhout, Netherlands/Stedelijk Gymnasium, Haarlem) converted the first two attempts for VCU, while NU connected on their first two attempts as well. Both teams missed on their third attempts keeping the tally even at 2-2. The Rams missed their final two chances while the Huskies converted both of theirs to claim a 2-1 victory.

The Rams will play their final regular season match Sunday, October 29 at Hofstra at 1 p.m.
