NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Rebecca Sullivan (Fredericksburg, Va./ Stafford) gave the Rams and early 1-0 lead with her first collegiate goal, but it would not hold up as the Bulldogs rallied to score three unanswered goals to claim a 3-1 win Friday afternoon at Johnson Family Field.

Virginia Commonwealth University (1-2) managed just one goal despite outshooting Yale (1-0) 19-14. The Rams also earned six penalty corners, one more than the Bulldogs. Sophomore Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England/Bromley), who earned an assist on Sullivan’s goal, charted 10 shots, four on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Baker (Kent, England/Langley Park) played the entire match between the pipes and tallied six saves.

Yale received goals from Katie Cantore, Harriet Thayer, who also picked up an assist, and Cat Lindroth. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Friedlander charted seven saves.

The Rams return to action Sunday, September 3 at 12 p.m. when they take the field against Sacred Heart in New Haven, Conn.
