NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England/Bromley) and freshman Emilie Osinga (Aerdenhout, Netherlands/Stedelijk Gymnasium, Harleem) (pictured) each tallied their third goals of the season for Virginia Commonwealth University (1-3) Sunday in a 5-3 loss to Sacred Heart University (3-1).
Freshman Rebecca Sullivan (Fredericksburg, Va./ Stafford) gave the Rams a 1-0 lead just 2:06 into the match with her second goal in as many games. Osinga assisted Sullivan on the goal.
Eight minutes later, Carisa Eye scored her first of three goals on the afternoon to pull Sacred Heart even with VCU at 1-1.
The Rams then received back-to-back goals form Lloyd (unassited) and Osinga (Lloyd), giving VCU a 3-1 advantage.
The Pioneers cut the lead in half when Sarah Yeaton scored on a penalty corner with 13:39 remaining in the first period. Carisa Eye tallied her second goal of the match just before the break to even the score at 3-3.
Despite out shooting Sacred Heart in the second period 5-4, VCU was unable to find the back of the net. The Pioneers, however, managed two unanswered goals to claim the 5-3 victory.
The Rams return to action next Sunday, September 10 at 1 p.m. when they host Rider at Cary Street Field.
