BARKLEY TOURNAMENT RAISES FUNDS FOR VCU ATHLETICS

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University held its 12th Annual Charles Barkley Celebrity Golf Tournament, Aug. 28 at Hunting Hawk Golf Course in Glen Allen. The event, which proved to the largest in tournament history, raised $41,000 for the VCU SportCenter and VCU Athletics scholarship fund.

The 11-time NBA All-Star and recent Hall of Fame inductee was joined by a variety of other professionals from the sports industry, including Moses Malone (NBA veteran), Tim Legler (ESPN analyst), David Aldridge, Mark Collins (NFL veteran), Toi Cook (NFL veteran), and Bryant Stith (NBA).

Following lunch at the course, the scramble-format tournament began at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.  Each celebrity was joined by a foursome from various local companies, VCU sponsors, and VCU boosters, including Alltel, Pepsi, Phillip Morris, Genworth Financial, and VCU Health Systems.  After the event, a reception was held for all participants and their guests at the Sheraton Richmond West.
