VCU TO HONOR PUBLIC SAFETY HEROES
11-14-05
RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University Director of Athletics Dr. Richard L. Sander has announced that the Rams will host Public Safety Heroes Night, Dec. 17, at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. VCU athletics would like to honor and thank all members of the public safety community who continually provide protection and security for the citizens of Richmond and its surrounding areas. VCU will also host a 5-on-5 half-court basketball tournament in conjunction with the event.
“We are very eager to show our appreciation to the entire public safety community,” explained Dr. Sander. “So much of their work is out of the public eye and it is great to be able to recognize and thank them for their dedication to Central Virginia.”
Public Safety Heroes Night will be held in combination with the VCU men’s basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The Rams will host the College of Charleston – a team they met for only the second time in school history last year during the ESPN Bracket Buster. Public safety officers will receive one free ticket to the men’s basketball game, while accompanying family or friends will receive a discounted ticket for only $5 each.
In addition to the recognition of the officers, VCU will also host a Public Safety Heroes Basketball Tournament, the Sunday preceding the game, Dec. 11 from 2-8 p.m. in the Alltel Pavilion. The tournament is open to all public safety officials in Richmond and surrounding areas. The championship game for both the men’s and women’s divisions will be played at 6:15 p.m. prior to tip-off of the men’s basketball game.
For additional information on either event, please contact Lindsay Thomas in the VCU Athletic Marketing Office at 804.827.0808.
