Junior Daryl Chappell (Richmond, Va.) paced the Rams with a 13-over 229 (80-71-78), which was tied for 15th out of 80 participants. Junior Andrea Perrino (Livorno, Italy) was five shots behind Chappell at 234 (80-74-80). Senior Manuel Relancio (Corrientes, Argentina) was at 236 (80-76-80). Junior Jens Fahrbring (Sollentuna, Sweden) finished at 239 (82-75-82). Freshman Matthew Brookbanks (West Midlands, England) was at 245 (85-81-79).

The Rams will host the Mattaponi Springs Shootout on Oct. 3-4.

Newport, R.I. – Virginia Commonwealth University is tied for 6th after day one at the Adams Cup of Newport Cleveland Golf Classic.  VCU finished tied for 12th following round one, but jumped into a tie for 6th after tallying the lowest team round of the tournament, an 8-over par 296.

Junior Daryl Chappell (Richmond, Va./Dinwiddie) led the Ram charge up the leaderboard with a tournament best one-under par 71 in round two.  Chappell (80+71=151) is currently tied for 4th in the individual standings, just five strokes behind leader Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M. 

Junior Andrea Perrino (Livorno, Italy/Cecioni Scientific Lycee) (80+74=154)moved from 40th into a tie for 18th after carding a two-over par 74.  Senior Manuel Relancio (Corrientes, Argentina/Instituto Modelo Jean Piaget) is just two strokes behind Perrino after scores of 80 and 76.  Junior Jens Fahrbring (Sollentuna, Sweden/Rudbeckskolan) had rounds of 82 and 75 for a total of 157, while Matthew Brookbanks (West Midlands, England/Solihull) (85+81) totaled 166.

Second round action is scheduled to start Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.

Newport, R.I. – Virginia Commonwealth University is tied for 12th after round one at the Adams Cup of Newport Cleveland Golf Classic hosted by Rhode Island University at Newport National Golf Club.

The Rams have three golfers tied for 40th after a windy round one.  Andrea Perrino (Livorno, Italy/Cecioni Scientific Lycee) (pictured) (42-38), Manuel Relancio (Corrientes, Argentina/Instituto Modelo Jean Piaget) (39-41), and Daryl Chappel (Richmond, Va./Dinwiddie) (36-44) each carded 80s to open the tournament. Jens Fahrbring (Sollentuna, Sweden/Rudbeckskolan) shot an 82 (40-42) to round out the top four for VCU.
