PINEHURST, N.C. – The Virginia Commonwealth University golf team finished in 11th-place at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, which was shortened to two rounds due to inclement weather. The Rams (307-299—606) began round two in 14th, but moved up three spots after posting the fourth-lowest second-round total.

Leading the way for VCU was junior Daryl Chappell (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) (76-73—149) (pictured) who posted a round-two 73 to move from 37th into a tie for 13th in the individual standings. Senior Manuel Relancio (Corrientes, Argentina/Instituto Modelo Jean Piaget) (75-75—150) carded his second consecutive 75 to move into the top 20.

Also for VCU, junior Dustin Hussey (Ridgeway, Va./Magna Vista) (80-74—154) shaved six strokes off his round-one total with a two-over par 74. Junior Jens Fahrbring (Sollentuna, Sweden/Rudbeckskolan) (76-80--156) shot a second-round 80, while sophomore William Thompson (South Hill, Va./Park View) (86-77—163) rebounded from day one to shoot a 77.

The Rams return to action April 2-4 when travel to Greensboro, N.C. for the Forest Oaks intercollegiate.

PINEHURST, N.C. – The Virginia Commonwealth University golf team sits in 14th-place after day one of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate hosted by Indiana University, which is being played on The Centennial Pinehurst No. 8.

Despite being in 14th out of 17 teams, the Rams are in the midst of a ten-team pack separated by just seven strokes. VCU completed round one with a score of 307.

The low-finisher for the Rams in round one was senior Manuel Relancio (Corrientes, Argentina/Instituto Modelo Jean Piaget) who ended the day tied for 21st after carding a score of 75. Juniors Jens Fahrbring (Sollentuna, Sweden/Rudbeckskolan) and Daryl Chappell (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) each posted scores of 76. Junior Dustin Hussey (Ridgeway, Va./Magna Vista) shot a round-one 80, while sophomore William Thompson (South Hill, Va./Park View) carded an 86.
