COMMONWEALTH ANNOUNCES ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CLASS FOR
2000 1-19-00 Virginia Commonwealth athletic director Dr. Richard L. Sander has announced the 2000 induction class for the Athletic Hall of Fame. Four Ram athletes have been chosen for this year's class: men's soccer player Eric Dade, men's tennis player Fredrik Eliasson, women's basketball player Anna (Pavlikhina) Fitzgerald and men's basketball player Kendrick Warren. Dade, the first
soccer player to be enshrined in the hall, played for
Virginia Commonwealth from 1987-1991. He started all of
his 71 games played for the Rams, earning all-Sun Belt
Conference honors as a junior and all-state accolades his
senior season. Dade is now a member of the Dallas Burn of
Major League Soccer. Eliasson
helped to bring national recognition to the Virginia
Commonwealth men's tennis program while playing for the
Rams from 1991-1994. He set a school record (since
broken) for career singles victories as he racked up 99
wins over the course of his career. Eliasson was selected
to compete in the NCAA tournament 1992 and led the Rams
to their first appearance as a team in 1993. He was part
of three Metro Conference championship teams and was
named a third team GTE Academic All-American in 1994. Pavlikhina
made her mark on the Virginia Commonwealth women's
basketball program from 1991-1993 with her accurate shot
and ability to score. She is fourth all-time in scoring,
having accumulated 1,230 points over her three seasons,
and set school career records in three-point field goal
and free-throw percentage as well as three-pointers made.
She earned all-Metro conference honors for the Rams in
both her junior and senior seasons. Warren
is the leading scorer in Virginia Commonwealth men's
basketball history, as he racked up 1,838 points while
wearing black and gold from 1991-1994. He is the only
player in the program's history to lead the team in both
scoring and rebounding for four consecutive seasons. In
addition toscoring, Warren also hit the boards, as he finished his career ranked second on the school's rebounding chart. He earned all-conference honors four times - once in the Sun Belt Conference, where he earned freshman of the year accolades as well, and three times in the Metro Conference. The four inductees will be honored in a ceremony at halftime of the Virginia Commonwealth men's basketball game against George Mason on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. |
