MAYNOR NAMED CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman guard Eric Maynor (Fayetteville, N.C./Westover) has been named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week.
Maynor averaged 12.5 points per game and 4.0 assists per contests in two conference games last week. He had seven points and one assist in 10 minutes against CAA regular-season champion UNC Wilmington. Maynor had his second start of the season on Saturday at William & Mary and responded with career highs of 18 points and seven assists in 28 minutes in a 77-59 victory over the Tribe. He was 6 for 8 from the floor, 1 for 1 behind the arc and 5 for 5 from the free throw line. Maynor also had a pair of steals against the Tribe.
Maynor is averaging 4.3 points per game in his first season with the Rams. He is shooting .442 from the floor (42-95) and .875 from the free throw line (28-32).
VCU, under fourth-year head coach Jeff Capel, finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-9 and an 11-7 mark in the CAA. The Rams will be the No. 6 seed in this weekend’s CAA Tournament. VCU opens play on Friday, March 3, at 8:30 p.m. against 11th-seed William & Mary in the Richmond Coliseum.
