ALLEN EDWARDS / ASSISTANT COACH

Allen Edwards is entering his first year as an assistant coach under Anthony Grant at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Edwards makes his way to VCU via Morehead State, where he served as an assistant coach for three seasons (2003-06).

Edwards, a four-year letterwinner at Kentucky, was a member of two national championship teams and a participant in three Final Fours.  He helped the Wildcats to a 132-16 overall record during his tenure, including three SEC regular season titles and three SEC Tournament crowns.   He is still listed among Kentucky’s all-time assist leaders with 285 career distributions.  Edwards played nearly every position during his four years at Kentucky, under both Rick Pitino and former VCU assistant coach Tubby Smith.

Following his collegiate playing career, Edwards went on to compete professionally in the CBA and IBL before returning to Kentucky to complete his degree in sociology in December 2002.

Edwards, a native of Miami, Fla., is married to LaTanya Edwards.  The couple has a six-year old daughter, Mai’a.
