GWYNN NAMED CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND STRAIGHT TIME

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman forward T.J. Gwynn (Burlington, N.C./Cummings) was named Rookie of the Week in the Colonial Athletic Association for the second consecutive week.

Gwynn averaged 11.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in two road victories. He shot .778 from the floor (7-9) and .667 on free throws (8-12).

After scoring two points in the win at Albany, Gwynn tallied a season-high 20 points in VCU’s 68-54 win at Richmond. He also pulled down six rebounds against the Spiders.

Gwynn is averaging 6.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in VCU’s first nine games this season. He is shooting .594 from the floor (19-32) and .645 from the free throw line (20-31). Gwynn is second on the team with 15 offensive rebounds.

Under first-year head coach Anthony Grant, the Rams have posted a 7-2 record, including 4-0 in away games. VCU has won five consecutive games and has held six of its past seven opponents to 60 points or less. VCU returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 16, with a 7:30 p.m. home contest against UAB at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
