MAYNOR, GWYNN EARN CAA HONORS

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University sophomore guard Eric Maynor (Fayetteville, N.C./Westover) has been named co-Player of the Week in the Colonial Athletic Association. Freshman forward T.J. Gwynn (Burlington, N.C./Cummings) (pictured) was named CAA Rookie of the Week.

Maynor averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds in two VCU victories this past week, 91-49 at Elon and 102-84 over Houston. Maynor had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the victory at Elon. Maynor registered his first career double-double as he posted career highs with 28 points and 11 assists in the win over the Cougars. Maynor also had six rebounds and two blocks against Houston.

Maynor leads VCU in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per contest. He is averaging 5.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Gwynn averaged 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the two wins for the Rams last week. He had 13 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals in 20 minutes at Elon. Gwynn had eight points, nine boards and three assists in the win over Houston.

Gwynn is averaging 5.1 points per game this season with 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

The Rams, under first-year head coach Anthony Grant, have posted a 5-2 record through seven games. VCU plays at Albany on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. before visiting Richmond on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Black and Blue Classic, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.
