Considered to be the greatest ballhandler in school history... Holds the career record for assists by a Virginia Commonwealth player, having dished out 582 over his four years with Virginia Commonwealth... An iron man, Sherod played 4,091 career minutes and averaged 36.20 per contest, both of which still stand as school records ... Sherod’s teams advanced to postseason play four times – twice to the NCAA tournament and twice to the NIT... Named to the Sun Belt Conference second team in both 1980 and 1981, as he led the league in assists in both his junior and senior seasons... Selected by the New Jersey Nets in the fourth round of the National Basketball Association draft in 1981 and participated in the 1982 NBA playoffs... Returned to his alma mater as an assistant men’s basketball coach for two terms, first on J.D. Barnett’s staff from 1984-85 and for Mike Pollio from 1986-88... Moved from that position to the head coach of the Virginia Commonwealth women’s basketball program for two seasons 1989-90 compiling a 26-30 record... Inducted into the Virginia Commonwealth Athletic Hall of Fame (1990).
