RICHMOND, Va. – The playing rights of former Virginia Commonwealth University men’s soccer standout Matthew Delicate (pictured above) were transferred last week from the local Richmond Kickers to the USL First Division Rochester Raging Rhinos.  In addition to his duties with the local Kickers’ squad, Delicate also served as an assistant coach with the VCU men’s soccer team.

Before Delicate joined the professional ranks, he completed a stellar four-year career at VCU, finishing as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 101 points on 44 goals and 13 assists.  The 2003 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year had 16 game winning goals during career and became the first Ram to ever reach the 100-point mark.

Delicate joins Rochester after single-handedly ending the Rhinos season last year. He scored three of the four goals in the 4-2 aggregate goal series leading the Kickers to the USL First Division Championship game. Delicate spent the 2004 season with Richmond scoring seven goals and tallying six assists for 20 points, before posting eight goals and two assists for 18 points in 2005. He was also named to the USL Team of the Week four times last season. The 6'3", 190-pound forward was originally a second-round pick of the Rochester Rhinos in the 2004 Collegiate Draft.

Also a previous member of the Richmond Kickers’ Futures for two seasons, Delicate logged over 2,700 minutes on the field in 34 games, scoring 25 goals and 55 points total during his two years with the Future.
