RAMS CLIMB ONE SPOT TO NO. 11 IN SOCCER AMERICA POLL

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University men’s soccer team moved up one place to No. 11 in the latest Soccer America poll.

The Rams (1-1-0) fell 1-0 to No. 5 North Carolina on Friday before defeating Monmouth 3-1 on Sunday in the Nike/Alltel Classic at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium. Senior defender Veit Schaidinger (Regensburg, Germany) (pictured) scored twice against the Hawks. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by senior defender Jose Luis Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) and sophomore midfielder Matthijs Maruanaya (Alkmaar, Netherlands).

VCU, under 11th-year head coach Tim O’Sullivan, also climbed to No. 11 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll. The Rams are third in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region poll and 21st in the NSCAA national poll.

The Rams will play in the Maryland/adidas Classic this weekend in College Park, Md. VCU will meet Georgetown (2-0-0) on Friday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. The Rams will face eighth-ranked Maryland (1-1-0) on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
