PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Pat McCaffery converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute for the lone goal of the game as Virginia Commonwealth University dropped a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association decision Sunday afternoon at Drexel.

The Rams (4-7-0, 2-2-0 CAA) held a 7-6 advantage in shots, including 6-3 in the second half. VCU only had one shot on goal. The Dragons (5-5-0, 1-3-0 CAA) had two shots on goal.

A foul was called in the box on VCU 11:44 into the match. McCaffery lined a shot into the upper left corner on the penalty kick to give Drexel a 1-0 lead.

VCU’s shot on goal came in the 68th minute on a header by sophomore Gerson Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) that was saved by Cory Robertson.

Sophomore Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va.) (pictured) had one save for the Rams, in the 81st minute of the match.

The Rams return home next weekend for a pair of home CAA contests. VCU entertains nationally-ranked Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. The Rams host William & Mary on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. Both matches will be held at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium.
