HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Sophomore Owusu Sekyere (Suame-Kumasi, Ghana/Opuku Ware) scored in the first half for Virginia Commonwealth University, but a pair of goals in the second half by Hofstra University gave the Pride a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory Sunday afternoon.

The Rams (4-11-0, 2-6-0 CAA) outshot the Pride (8-4-2, 5-2-1 CAA) 4-2 in the first half, but Hofstra had a 6-2 advantage in the second stanza.

Sophomore Gerson Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had a head flick to senior Branco Calizaya (Arlington, Va.), whose shot was stopped in the 38th minute. Sekyere put the rebound in to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead. It was Sekyere’s third goal of the season.

Lewis Irish put in a penalty kick for HU in the 51st minute after VCU was called for a hand ball in the box to knot the score at 1-1. Arman Osooli got past the keeper and scored in the 62nd minute to give the Pride a 2-1 advantage.

Sophomore Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va.) (pictured) had one save for the Rams. VCU also record a team save. James Winters had three saves for Hofstra.

The Rams return home on Friday, Oct. 20, for a 7 p.m. CAA contest against nationally-ranked George Mason at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium.
