RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University held No. 30 George Mason University to just two shots on goal, but one found the back of the net as the Patriots recorded a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory Friday evening at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium.

The Rams (4-12-0, 2-7-0 CAA) were even with the Patriots (11-3-1, 7-1-1 CAA) at seven shots each, but VCU had a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Mason scored the lone goal of the match with 29 seconds remaining in the first half as a corner kick from the right side by Francis McCardle made its way through the box, where Richard Edgar fired it in from 15 yards out to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

VCU had three of its shots on goal in the second half. Junior Pat Viray (Reston, Va.) (pictured) led the Rams with three shots, including two shots on goal.

Sophomore Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va.) had one save for VCU. Sean Kelley recorded four saves for Mason.

The Rams play at Towson on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. in CAA action.
