DYKSTRA RECORDS THIRD SHUTOUT OF SEASON IN SCORELESS TIE VS. JMU

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University and James Madison University played for 110 minutes and fought to a scoreless tie in Colonial Athletic Association action Friday evening at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium.
The Rams (4-13-1, 2-8-1 CAA) had seven shots on goal, compared to five by the Dukes (9-5-3, 4-4-3 CAA). JMU held a 22-12 advantage in total shots.
Sophomore Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va.) (pictured) had five saves for VCU in recording his third shutout of the season and eighth of his career. Kevin Trapp registered seven saves for the Dukes.
VCU had four shots on goal in the first half and three in the second half, but none in overtime. JMU did not have a shot on goal in the first half, but had three in the second half and one in each overtime period.
Senior Nate Burkey (Alexandria, Va.) led the Rams with four shots and three shots on goal, including two in the second half. Junior Matthijs Maruanaya (Alkmaar, Netherlands) had three shots and two shots on goal. Both his shots on goal came in the first period.
Kurt Morsink had six shots and two shots on goal for the Dukes. Mark Totten had five shots and three shots on goal for JMU. Totten had a shot on goal in the first overtime period in the 91st minute and Morsink had another in the second overtime session in the 102nd minute.
JMU had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Both teams were nationally-ranked earlier in the season, but neither will participate in the upcoming CAA Tournament.
