ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Sophomore Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va.) recorded four second-half saves, but it was not enough as No. 19 Virginia Commonwealth University dropped a 1-0 decision to Michigan Sunday afternoon in the second round of the University of Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Rams (2-3-0) had six shots in the match. Junior David Rosenbaum (Washington, D.C.) led VCU with two shots. Junior Pat Viray (Reston, Va.) had the lone shot on goal for the Rams.
Perica Marosevic put the Wolverines (3-3-0) on the board in the 38th minute on a shot from 25 yards out. Jake Stacy was credited with the assist for Michigan.
The Wolverines held a 13-6 edge in shots. Dykstra recorded his four saves in the second half. Patrick Sperry had one save for Michigan.
Senior Evan Morris (Springfield, Va.) (pictured) and sophomore Gerson Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) were named to the all-tournament team for VCU.
The Rams return home to play host to Richmond on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium.
