RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University held a 25-3 advantage in shots, but the University of Richmond got the game’s lone goal in the 55th minute as the Rams fell 1-0 Wednesday evening at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium.
The Rams (2-4-0) had seven shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net.
Kyle Richards picked up a loose ball for the Spiders (2-4-1) and fired a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off another player and found its way into the net in the 55th minute. It was the first goal of the season for Richards.
Junior David Rosenbaum (Washington, D.C.) led the Rams with eighth shots, including two shots on goal. Junior Matthijs Maruanaya (Alkmaar, Netherlands) (pictured) had five shots for VCU. Sophomore Owusu Sekyere (Suame-Kumasi, Ghana) had three shots for the Rams, all shots on goal.
Sophomore Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va.) recorded one save for VCU. Eric Sciocchetti had seven saves for the Spiders, including five in the first half.
The Rams will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Tuesday, Sept. 19, for a 7 p.m. contest against nationally-ranked North Carolina. |
