Romain Ambert is in his second year as an assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth University following a stellar collegiate playing career.

A two-time All-American at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss., Ambert carved out more than 100 combined singles and doubles victories for the Bulldogs from 2000-2004. Moreover, his 98 singles rank in the top five in MSU history and helped him earn Southeastern Conference First Team honors his first three seasons, the only Bulldog to ever accomplish that feat. He was also ranked as high as third nationally during his career and finished the 2002 season as the ninth-ranked player in the country.

In 2003, Ambert won the singles title at the ITA Southeast Championships, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dmitriy Koch of Tulane. He followed that victory by advancing to the Quarterfinal Round of the ITA National Indoor Championships before falling to eventual champion Jeremy Wurtzman of Ohio State in three sets. Ambert also captured the 2001 Southern Collegiate Singles Championship and won his way into the National Intercollegiate Championship final.

A native of Toulouse, France, Ambert is pursuing his Master’s Degree through VCU’s SportsCenter.
