VCU’S LLEAL, LECLOEREC, OLSAK HAUL IN CAA WEEKLY AWARDS

RICHMOND , Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University’s Francesc Lleal (Barcelona, Spain) (pictured) was chosen as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Week in singles and the Ram duo of Arnaud Lecloerec (Plouhinec, France) and Petr Olsak (Novy Jicin, Czech Republic) were honored with CAA Players of the Week in doubles for the week ending March 20, the league announced Tuesday. Old Dominion’s Harel Srugo received the CAA Player of the Week in singles for the week ending March 27.

Lleal went 3-1 during the week of the Blue-Gray Tournament in Montgomery, Ala. After dropping his first match in the tournament, Lleal scored victories in narrow VCU wins over Texas Tech, Tulsa and Notre Dame. Lleal downed No. 37 Texas Tech’s Dimitrio Martinez, 7-6 (1), 6-2 on March 17 in the quarterfinals and then scored a 6-4, 7-9 (9) win over No. 79 Ricardo Soriano of No. 39 Tulsa in the semis. The senior capped the weekend by outlasting No. 20 Notre Dame’s No. 89 Brett Helgeson, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, to clinch VCU’s third Blue-Gray title in four years.

Lecloerec and Olsak went 2-0 to help the Rams to the Blue-Gray Classic title. The pair teamed up at first doubles to topple No. 38 Colorado’s Eric Molnar and Mario Bundalo, 9-8 in the Rams’ 4-3 win in the first round of the tournament. Lecloerec and Olsak combined the next day to down Adrian Prpic and Christian Rojmar of No. 37 Texas Tech in VCU’s 4-2 win.
