FRIERSON AND LAMBERT SWEEP CAA AWARDS

RICHMOND, Va- Junior James Frierson (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) and junior Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina) (pictured) were named Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer and Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer, respectively; the league office announced Tuesday.
Frierson and Lambert were honored for their efforts while leading Virginia Commonwealth University to a Colonial Athletic Association Championship this past weekend. The award winners were chosen by the league’s coaches.
Frierson earned the award for most outstanding track performer after claiming four gold medals and one silver. The junior sprinter earned top honors in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and was a member of the gold medal winning 4x100-meter relay team. In all, Frierson accounted for 51 of the Rams 181 points.
Lambert was named the most outstanding field performer after claiming his third consecutive CAA long jump title. In the meet’s final event, the high jump, the junior jumps specialist sealed the championship victory for VCU after claiming the gold medal. Lambert also earned a bronze medal in the triple jump.
With each first-place finish, the award winners earned berths into the NCAA Regional track and field meet, which will be held May 26-27 in Greensboro, N.C.
