TOWSON, Md. – Senior Ludmila Francescatto (Fraiburga, Brazil) recorded 17 kills and Renata Salvatori (Londrina, Brazil) (pictured) added eight and hit .353, but Virginia Commonwealth University dropped a 3-1 (30-23, 30-23, 30-27, 30-17) decision at Towson Friday.

The loss snaps VCU’s two-match win streak and slips the Rams to 14-13 overall and 8-9 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Black and Gold are now locked in as the No. 6 seed for the upcoming CAA Tournament, Nov. 17-19 at Hofstra University. They will play the No. 3 seed, which has not been decided, in the quarterfinal round. Towson is 21-8 overall and 12-5 in the league.

Sophomore Ana Luiza Bernardes de Borja (Florianopolis, Brazil) had seven blocks and 10 kills, while senior Melissa Peterson (Ganado, Ariz.) kicked in six blocks, including a pair of solos. However, VCU struggled offensively, hitting .041 for the match. The Rams didn’t hit better than .065 in any of the four games.

Christine Grempler led the Tigers, smacking 12 kills on a .524 hitting percentage. She added three blocks. Maddie Haseltine had 15 kills and 10 digs for TU.

VCU hits the court again on Saturday, Nov. 11 when they take on Delaware in Newark, Del. at 7 p.m.
