ATLANTA – Senior Ludmila Francescatto (Fraiburga, Brazil/ Arizona Western College) and sophomore Ana Luiza Bernardes de Borja (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Geracao) blasted 13 kills apiece and sophomore Elisa Kuehnel (Dresden, Germany/Sportsgymnasium) (pictured) had seven kills and four blocks in Virginia Commonwealth University’s 3-0 victory (30-20, 30-27, 30-16) over Georgia State Sunday.
VCU (6-3, 2-0 CAA), which ran its win streak to three in a row, has won seven consecutive matches against Colonial Athletic Association opponents, dating back to last season. GSU is 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the CAA.
The Rams were dominant on the offensive end, hitting a combined .287, compared to the Panthers .059. Francescatto, who also had 10 digs, led the way with a .364 attack percentage, followed by Kuehnel (.333) and De Borja (.321).
Also for the Black and Gold, senior middle blocker Renata Salvatori (Londrina, Brazil/Arizona Western College) added eight kills and three blocks, while sophomore Cat Juson (Long Beach, Calif./Bush) and freshman Shannon Keebaugh (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) combined for 42 assists.
Amy Lusk drove the GSU attack with 10 kills and 11 digs.
VCU returns home on Friday, Sept. 15 when it hosts CAA-foe Northeastern at 7 p.m. at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
