PROVO, UTAH - The Virginia Commonwealth University Volleyball team gave #4 Stanford a scare in game one, but eventually dropped a 3-0 decision to the Cardinal, 30-28, 30-17, 30-16 at the BYU Molten Classic Saturday afternoon.

Senior outside hitter Ludmila Francescatto (Fraiburga, Brazil/Arizona Western College) had 17 kills for the Rams, who drop to 3-2 on the season. Stanford is 2-1.

Francescatto had eight of her kills in the first game when VCU hit .256, compared to the Cardinal’s .231. The Rams, down 27-22 late, rallied to within 29-28 after four Stanford errors and a kill each by Francescatto and sophomore outside hitter Ana Luiza Bernardes de Borja (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Geracao). But the Stanford held on when Cynthia Barboza converted a Bryn Kehoe assist for the decisive kill.

De Borja ripped 12 kills and had seven digs, while sophomore libero Laryssa Goncalves (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Dom Bosco) (pictured) kicked in 11 digs for VCU.
