FAIRFAX, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University seniors Ludmila Francescatto (Fraiburga, Brazil/Arizona Western College) (pictured), Renata Salvatori (Londrina, Brazil/Arizona Western College) and Melissa Peterson (Ganado, Ariz./Arizona Western College) had solid individual evenings, but George Mason earned team honors with a 3-1 victory (30-28, 30-27, 26-30, 30-28) Friday at Linn Gymnasium.
VCU has lost three straight, slipping to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. George Mason raises its record to 5-6 for the season and 2-3 in conference action.
Francescatto narrowly missed a double-double for the Rams, spanking 23 kills with nine digs. Meanwhile, Salvatori provided efficient hitting, recording 11 kills on 15 swings with one error. Peterson added 12 kills and four blocks.
The Patriots’ boost came in the form of Jaqueline Kohler, who fired 26 kills, hitting .319, with 11 digs and four aces. Claire Bodkin-Clarke sparked GMU’s 11.0 to 4.0 advantage in blocks, registering six total rejections, as well as seven kills.
VCU returns to the floor on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. when it heads to Harrisonburg, Va. to lock horns with CAA and in-state rival James Madison.
