BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Virginia Commonwealth University sophomore setter Cat Juson (Long Beach, Calif./Bush) provided the Rams’ hitters with 50 assists and added 11 digs and six services aces in a 3-1 win (30-23, 30-20, 26-30, 30-28) over South Dakota State Saturday at the Blackbird Holiday Inn Express Challenge at Long Island University.

VCU evens its record to 8-8 with the win. South Dakota State is 13-6.

In addition to Juson’s play, which helped the Black and Gold to a .251 hitting percentage, VCU got outstanding numbers out of a trio of players.

Sophomore outside hitter Ana Luiza Bernardes de Borja (Florianopolis, Brazil) hit .333 for the contest, smashing a match-high 19 kills. She added nine digs and two blocks. Senior middle blocker Melissa Peterson (Ganado, Ariz.) hit .423 for the match, registering 15 kills. Senior outside hitter Ludmila Francescatto (Fraiburga, Brazil) ripped 17 kills and hit .333 with four blocks.

Kristina Martin and Amy Anderson had 17 and 16 kills, respectively, for the Jackrabbits.
