VCU’S QUANITRA HOLLINGSWORTH NAMED FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICA

RICHMOND , Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University center Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake Va./Great Bridge) (pictured) has been named to the Women’s Basketball News Service’s Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced.

Hollingsworth, a 6-4 redshirt freshman, is the first VCU player to receive Freshman All-America status. She joins nine other outstanding rookies on the squad, including Freshman of the Year Courtney Paris from Oklahoma, as well as Tennessee star Candace Parker.

“We’re really excited for her,” said VCU head coach Beth Cunningham. “Her performance and her consistency throughout the year were remarkable. She had a fabulous first year, and she’s very deserving of a national honor. My coaching staff and I couldn’t be more proud.”

The youngest player in the country this season, Hollingsworth led VCU in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, free throws and field goal percentage. Her 11.1 rebounds per game average is second only to Paris amongst NCAA freshman is seventh nationally overall. She also led the Colonial Athletic Association and is 22 nd in the country in blocked shots at 2.3 per contest. Her 14.7 points per game and 412 total points broke the Rams’ freshman class records. Additionally, she posted 14 double-doubles this season, tying her for third in school history.

For her efforts, Hollingsworth was named the CAA’s Rookie of the Year and also earned spots on the conference’s Third Team, as well as the All-Defensive squad.
