RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore center Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) had a game-high 22 points and Virginia Commonwealth University limited Albany to 28-percent first-half shooting on the way to 67-55 win Tuesday at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.

The victory pushes VCU to 4-0 for the second consecutive year, while Albany drops to 1-4. This was the first meeting between the two schools.

The Rams built a 39-19 halftime lead behind suffocating pressure defense. VCU forced 14 Great Dane turnovers in the first 20 minutes and limited UA to just eight field goals on 29 attempts.

Hollingsworth, coming off the bench for the first time in her career, scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in the opening half to spur the offense. She hit on 8-of-11 field goals in the contest and picked up eight boards and two blocked shots.

Junior forward Krystal Vaughn (Baltimore, Md./Lake Clifton-Eastern) (pictured) pumped in 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and hauled in seven rebounds in 27 minutes of work for VCU. Senior guard Michele Cosel (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) also scored in a double figures for the Black and Gold with 11. She added four assists, four rebounds and two steals.

VCU dominated nearly every facet of the game, owning the boards by a 47-27 margin while also shooting 43 percent (23-of-53) for the game. The Rams forced a total of 24 Albany turnovers on the night.

Britney McGee led the Great Danes with 15 points, while Gia Sanders contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots.

Trailing 5-4 in the opening minutes, Hollingsworth contributed a bucket during an 8-1 spurt that gave VCU a 12-6 edge with 13:30 remaining in the first half.  The Great Danes closed to within 13-10, but the Rams quickly embarked on a 19-3 blitz behind seven points from Hollingsworth and six from Vaughn to blow the game wide open with 3:16 showing.

VCU returns to the floor on Friday, Nov. 24 when it welcomes former Colonial Athletic Association rival East Carolina to the Alltel Pavilion at 7 p.m.
