VCU FORCES 31 TURNOVERS IN EXHIBITION WIN OVER VIRGINIA UNION

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore center Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) (pictured) poured in a game-high 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Virginia Commonwealth University forced 31 turnovers on the way to a 74-37 rout of Division II Virginia Union Friday in exhibition action at the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
Hollingsworth, who had one point in the first half, also collected five rounds, two blocks and three nifty assist in the post. Junior forward Krystal Vaughn (Baltimore, Md./Lake Clifton-Eastern) added 11 points and eight rebounds, all offensive, while freshman forward D’Andra Moss (Atlanta, Ga./Norcross) had six points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals in her VCU debut.
Six players had at least eight points for the Rams in the win, including junior guard LaKea Jones (Washington, D.C./National Christian Academy) who contributed eight points, six assist and a pair of steals.
The Rams’ shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field for the game and out rebounded the Panthers 49-27.
Denae Kennedy led VUU with 12 points and six steals, while Ciara Alston added seven points, five steals and three assists.
VCU opens its regular season on Friday, Nov. 10 when it takes on Central Connecticut State at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, Conn. at 7 p.m. |
