RAMS FALL TO JMU IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE, 3-1
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Patience is a virtue, at least that’s what we were taught by our parents. The VCU women’s soccer team must test their own patience now as they must wait till tomorrow afternoon to find out their seeding in the upcoming CAA Tournament after a 3-1 loss at James Madison on Friday evening.

The Rams fall to 11-5-3 overall and 7-3-1 in the CAA while the Dukes clinch the sixth spot in the conference tournament and improve to 9-8-2 on the year and 5-4-2 in the CAA.

The Dukes got on the board first as Annie Lowry lobbed a shot over junior netminder Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) from 30 yards out in the 19th minute to put James Madison up 1-0. Lowry struck again in the 51st minute as she took a feed from Corky Julien and found the back of the net to give the Dukes a 2-0 lead.

Junior Bridgit Cooley (Clifton, Va./Seton) put the Rams on the board in the 80th minute as a scramble in front of the net allowed Donna Morwarin (Deventer, Netherlands/Roc Aventus) to pass to Cooley who deposited the ball into the net to cut the lead to 2-1.

Lowry connected on another goal in the 82nd minute to record a hat trick and give James Madison the 3-1 victory.

The Rams outshot the Dukes 12-11 in contest, holding a decisive 10-5 advantage in the second half. Hardison notched five saves in the game for the Rams.

VCU now has to wait until Saturday to see the outcome of the UNC Wilmington and Georgia State contest. If UNC Wilmington wins, the Rams will host James Madison in a rematch of the regular season finale at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium on Monday evening at 7 p.m. If UNC Wilmington ties or loses, the Rams will be the second seed in the CAA Tournament and gain a first-round bye into the semi-finals in Virginia Beach, Va.
