WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The VCU women’s soccer team battled the 18th-ranked Tribe of the College of William and Mary but fell 1-0 in CAA women’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The Rams fall to 8-3-2 and 4-1-0 in the conference, while William & Mary improves to 10-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the CAA.
The loss snaps the Black and Gold’s CAA regular season unbeaten streak, which ends at 17, while its seven game unbeaten streak overall is also finished.
Danielle Collins took a pass from Mary MacKenzi Grier and found the back of the net in the 66th minute of play to score the lone goal of the contest and give the Tribe a 1-0 win and sole possession of first place in the CAA.
The two teams battled throughout the game as VCU outshot the Tribe 12-11 overall with an 8-6 advantage in the second half.
Junior Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va.) notched seven saves in the contest as she faced eight shots on goal in the contest.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Old Dominion to make-up a rain postponed match, start time is set for 7 p.m.
