CURRENT, FORMER RAMS SHINE IN W-LEAGUE

RICHMOND, Va. – Several current and former Virginia Commonwealth University women’s soccer players excelled in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) W-League, the USL’s highest level of women’s soccer in the United States and Canada.
Midfielder Sandra Anger and forward Jennifer Parsons play for the Richmond Kickers Destiny and were named to the 2006 W-League All-Central Conference Team. Both former Rams scored in the Destiny’s 2-0 playoff win over the Michigan Hawks. It was the first-ever USL W-League playoff game for the Destiny. Junior Emily Niman was in goal and recorded the shutout. The Destiny’s season ended with a 1-0 loss to Charlotte in the quarterfinals. click here for entire All-League and All-Conference teams
Former Ram Leah Robinson started in central midfield for the W-League’s Ottawa Fury. She scored the game-winning goal in Ottawa’s 2-1 victory over Charlotte in the semifinals of the W-League playoffs. CURRENT, FORMER RAMS LEAD DESTINY TO FIRST W-LEAGUE PLAYOFFS

RICHMOND, Va. – Several current and former members of the VCU women’s soccer program have helped the Richmond Kickers Destiny clinch its first-ever United Soccer Leagues (USL) W-League playoff berth after winning two of its final three regular-season matches this past weekend in Florida.
Former Ram Sandra Anger was named the W-League Player of the Week. She scored the first goal in a 2-1 victory over the Central Florida Krush on Friday, July 14. Anger also tallied the initial score in a 3-0 win at Bradenton on Sunday, July 16. That triumph secured a playoff spot for the Destiny.
Former VCU standout Jennifer Parsons is third in the 38-team W-League with 13 goals and 50 shots, and fourth with 26 points. Anger is second on the team with six goals and 15 points. Former Ram Jennifer Woodie has played in 11 matches on defense. Rising junior Emily Niman (pictured) has appeared in 12 matches in goal with 46 saves and a goals-against average of 1.13 with five shutouts.
The Destiny has a record of 9-4-1 for 28 points in the Atlantic Division of the Central Conference of the W-League, the USL’s highest level of women’s soccer in the United States and Canada. The playoffs begin on the weekend of July 28-30.
