MOORWOOD SCORES FOR VCU IN 1-1 DRAW AT FLORIDA ATLANTIC

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Junior Hayley Moorwood (Auckland, New Zealand) scored in the 14th minute as Virginia Commonwealth University played to a 1-1 draw after two overtime periods at Florida Atlantic in the second round of the FAU Kickoff Classic.

Moorwood finished a cross off a free kick from senior Leigh Anthony (Fredericksburg, Va.) to give the Rams (1-0-1) an early 1-0 lead. It was Moorwood’s second goal in as many games for VCU.

After holding the Owls (0-1-1) scoreless for more than 70 minutes, they finally tallied the equalizer in the 74th minute as Tessa McGarrity lofted a floater over the keeper’s head. Neither team scored in overtime, as the contest ended in a 1-1 tie.

FAU held a 12-8 advantage on shots, including 8-4 in the first half. Each team had four shots on goal.

Junior Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va.) registered three saves in 110 minutes for the Rams. Megan Coyne had two saves in 65 minutes for FAU, while Jessica Badders recorded one save in 45 minutes for the Owls.

VCU will travel to Charlottesville on Wednesday, August 30, for a 7 p.m. contest against nationally-ranked Virginia.
