CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University had three shots, but could not find the back of the net as the Rams fell to sixth-ranked Virginia 4-0 Wednesday evening in front of 294 fans at Klockner Stadium.
The Rams (1-1-1) had two shots in the final 4:15 of the first half, but could not connect. VCU had a great opportunity to score early in the second half, but could not get off a shot on a loose ball in front of the net.
The Cavaliers (3-0-0) scored their first goal in the 16th minute as Kelly Quinn dribbled to the top of the box on the right side and put the ball inside the left post to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Virginia tallied its second goal in the 24th minute as Sarah Curtis finished a cross from Kara Frederick to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead.
Curtis added her second goal in the 53rd minute and Caitlin Miskel completed the scoring in the 79th minute.
Junior Hayley Moorwood (Auckland, New Zealand), sophomore Stephanie Power (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) and sophomore Megan Flanagan (Franktown, Colo.) (pictured) each had shots for the Rams.
Junior Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va.) registered a pair of saves in 90 minutes for the Rams.
VCU will travel to Richmond on Sunday, September 3, for a 7 p.m. contest against the Spiders.
