ATLANTA, Ga. – Sophomore Stephanie Power (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia/Dartmouth) logged a goal and an assist to lead the VCU Rams to a 3-2 defeat of Georgia State on Sunday afternoon and the Rams extended their conference regular season unbeaten streak to 15 straight games.

The Black and Gold improve to 6-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference with the southern sweep of UNC Wilmington on Friday and the Panthers on Sunday. Georgia State falls to 3-5-2 and 0-1-1 in the CAA.

The victory was not easy as the Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Nathalie Carter got a shot past sophomore Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill), just three minutes into the contest, off a rebound from Georgia State’s Amber Collins-Cephers shot.

The Rams flexed their muscles as they responded with three unanswered goals to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Power struck first for VCU as she grabbed a hold of a goalie kick from Hardison and blasted a shot from 35 yards out to even the contest at 1-1 in the 18th minute.

Power guided a beautiful corner kick to freshman Karin Tersteeg (Diepenveen, Netherlands) who headed the ball into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal in the 30th minute as the Rams took a 2-1 advantage into the intermission.

Junior Hayley Moorwood guided a feed to fellow classmate Laure Dupont (Plessis Robinson, France), who rocketed a ball from just outside the box only seven minutes into the second half to register her first collegiate goal and give the Rams a decisive 3-1 lead.

Georgia State added a goal with just over three minutes left in the contest to pull within 3-2, but the Rams would hold on to record the victory and complete the sweep of the Southern trip.

The Rams held the decisive advantage in shots as they launched 17 in the contest while the defense stifled the Panthers offensive efforts and held them to just seven shots on the day.

The Rams return home on Friday, September 29 as they host the University of Delaware in their CAA home opener. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
