JANSSON SCORES IN SECOND HALF TO LEAD VCU TO 1-0 WIN OVER RICHMOND

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Pernilla Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) (pictured) netted the game’s lone goal in the 64th minute to give Virginia Commonwealth University a 1-0 victory over the University of Richmond Sunday evening at UR Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half, Jansson put a cross from junior Hayley Moorwood (Auckland, New Zealand) into the upper right corner of the net from five yards out in the 64th minute for a 1-0 lead for the Rams (2-1-1).

Jansson scored both goals for VCU in its 2-0 victory over Richmond a year ago.

The Rams held a 15-9 advantage in shots. Jansson and sophomore Stephanie Power (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) each had four shots for VCU. Freshman Kristen Stalter had four shots off the bench for the Spiders (0-3-0).

Junior Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va.) registered four saves for the Rams in posting her first shutout of the season. Sophomore Kate Hudson had a pair of saves for Richmond.

The Rams open their home schedule this weekend with the VCU/Ewing Sports Invitational at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium. On Friday, the Rams face Colgate at 7 p.m. On Sunday, VCU meets La Salle at 3 p.m.
