WOMEN’S TENNIS JUMPS 16 SPOTS IN LATEST ITA POLL

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University Women’s Tennis Team, hot off an upset of No. 17 Clemson, vaulted 16 spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings to No. 33.

It is the Rams’ highest position since earning the No. 31 spot in the Feb. 24, 2004 poll.

VCU cruised past the Tigers on Feb. 4 by a 6-1 margin in Clemson, S.C. The Rams were previously slotted at 49th.

The VCU Men’s Team, which lost a narrow, 4-3 decision to No. 8 Baylor, remained at No. 34 for the second straight poll.

Both teams will be in action this weekend. The men take on No. 13 Wake Forest on Friday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. VCU will also stay home for a Sunday, Feb. 12 match with No. 35 Minnesota at 10 a.m.

The women, meanwhile, will also be in action on Sunday, hosting CAA rival Old Dominion at 1 p.m. at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
