UVAROVA NAMED CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK; RAMS ASCEND TO NO. 14

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University sophomore Tatsiana Uvarova (Minsk, Belarus) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Singles Player of the Week after a trio of impressive wins.

Uvarova was chosen after posting 3-0 record at number one singles against ranked opponents. The sophomore upset #17 Megan Moulton-Levy of William & Mary, 6-4, 6-2, beat No. 64 Neyssa Etienne of South Florida, 6-3, 6-1 and defeated No. 85 Paula Zabala of Florida International, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.

The victories improved Uvarova’s record to 20-1 on the season for the undefeated Rams (24-0). For her efforts, Uvarova also jumped to No. 39 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings. She was ranked 77th the last ITA poll.

In addition, VCU moved up five spots in the ITA team poll, jumping into the No. 14 spot. That matches the Rams highest ranking since earning No. 9 in the April 27, 2003 poll.

Uvarova and the Rams return to play this weekend April 20-23 when they head to the CAA Championships in Newport News, Va.
