RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University veteran men’s and women’s tennis head coach Paul Kostin has announced that Yana Carollo has been promoted to associate women’s tennis head coach.  Carollo, a former women’s tennis standout for the Rams, recently completed her second season with the tradition-rich program, leading VCU to an impressive 29-1 overall record and its third NCAA appearance in five years.

“Yana is a tremendous teacher and assistant coach,” commented Kostin.  “She has brought so much playing experience and knowledge to our program.  She is a great coach and extremely deserving of this promotion.  I look forward to working with Yana and seeing where we can really take the program.”

"I am very excited about this opportunity, and thankful to Paul for all the knowledge, experience and support i have gained as an assistant,” commented Carollo. “I look forward to continue building a very strong and talented women's tennis program at VCU."

Under Carollo’s assistantship, Kostin’s Rams have won the CAA Tournament for only the second time in league history, earned five All-America citations, and been ranked nationally for two-straight seasons.  This past year, VCU went an unbeaten 26-0 through the regular season to earn its sixth all-time bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Carollo, a fierce competitor for the Rams from 1999 to 2002, finished her career with a 72-26 overall singles record and a 53-22 mark in doubles competition.  Carollo, who made three trips to the NCAA Tournament as a player, including the Rams’ historic run to the national quarterfinals in 2002, was selected to the All-CAA team four times.  She is still ranked fourth all-time at VCU with her 72 singles victories.
