Mia Pollard
Women's Head Coach Second Season at VCU

Mia Pollard begins her secondd year as head coach of
the Virginia Commonwealth women's team this year.
Pollard was an assistant coach for the Rams.
Pollard, a native of West Point, Va., graduated from
North Carolina in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in
physical education. As a member of the Tar Heels'
track team, Pollard was a seven-time All-American,
reaching that plateau in the 800 meters and as part
of 1,600 and 3,200-meter relay teams. She finished
fourth in the 800 meters at the NCAA indoor
championships her sophomore year and was a three-time
Atlantic Coast Conference outdoor champion in the 800
meters as well.
Pollard began her coaching career as a student
assistant at Christopher Newport University in 1994.
Shortly after that she was hired as an assistant
track and field and cross country coach at
Bethel High School in Hampton, Va. Pollard stayed at
Bethel for four years before coming to Virginia
Commonwealth at the start of the 1997 season. |
