<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <table border="0" width="100%"> <tr> <td><font face="Arial">Mia Pollard <br> <br> Women's Head Coach  Second Season at VCU  North Carolina '90 <br> <br> Mia Pollard begins her secondd year as head coach of the Virginia Commonwealth women's team this year. Pollard was an assistant coach for the Rams. <br> <br> Pollard, a native of West Point, Va., graduated from North Carolina in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. As a member of the Tar Heels' track team, Pollard was a seven-time All-American, reaching that plateau in the 800 meters and as part of 1,600 and 3,200-meter relay teams. She finished fourth in the 800 meters at the NCAA indoor championships her sophomore year and was a three-time Atlantic Coast Conference outdoor champion in the 800 meters as well.<br> <br> Pollard began her coaching career as a student assistant at Christopher Newport University in 1994. Shortly after that she was hired as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at<br> Bethel High School in Hampton, Va. Pollard stayed at Bethel for four years before coming to Virginia Commonwealth at the start of the 1997 season.</font></td> </tr> </table> </body>
